A Fickle Friend
He came on wings so swift and strong
that young friendship of yours
His sweet caress and joyous song
cheered through the days that were hard and long
brightening the weary hours
He spread his wings and shelterd me
in his firm and warm embrace
My heart found peace
and as silently
we walked the roads of life apace
our hands were joined
through time and space
by the strength of Friendship's powers
Then, as if weaned of this tryst
he turned and went away
leaving behind the one he'd kissed
alone in the darkening day
Will he come back around the river's bend
when he's older and needs me still
wanting me yet to be his friend?
I will be - indeed I will!
